Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at 2:05PM This is just a phenomenal Twist which gives one an idea of how far 2000 Phish were able to take a conversation and proving they could still turn on a dime when they wanted to. Trey was using his components on the floor to his disposal more and more and in some ways I think it was throwing folks off of the layers being created, which was a key to this era of Phish, as far as my ears heard things. I'm not talking Boomerang Trey, which some argued was too simplistic. I'm talking about what Trey learned from the funk siren and how the band worked around that sound. The jam that comes out of this Twist is a prime example of what seems to have been a lost evolution but was definitely interesting at the time.
The heaviness in the air got thicker once Slave started. Trey was still pushing it and the band famously, which is why they are in my ears, surrounded him perfectly leaving the music to do what it had to do. A casual crescendo that peaked as it would leading to any picture perfect Slave.

Sensational. Mind-blowing. Fantabulous.
These are all words with the same amount of letters as SUPER BALL IX.
It's Phish's biggest. Ball. Ever. So big we can't. Contain it. In one sentence. Super Ball IX, Phish's ninth festival, will take place July 1-3 at Watkins Glen International. Located amidst the rolling hills of central New York's Finger Lakes region, the site offers an abundance of campsites and is just a short drive from numerous Northeastern cities. Super Ball IX will mark Phish's first-ever performance over July 4 weekend, and the first major music festival held at Watkins Glen since 1973's legendary Summer Jam. It is also Phish's first-ever performance at a facility with "Watkins" in its name.
Tickets for Super Ball IX go on sale this Monday, April 4th, at Noon ET at http://superballIX.portals.musictoday.com. Onsite camping is included in the price of admission. Like previous Phish festivals, the event will include numerous activities, attractions and art installations in addition to a series of performances by the band. Camping and travel packages will. Be. Available. (Sorry, hard habit to break.)
Super Ball IX continues a tradition that began with The Clifford Ball in August of 1996. Rolling Stone observed, "It was definitely groundbreaking...there was a real story; that in an age of corporate sponsorship, this completely home-grown thing happened that was different from any other concert."
Anyone purchasing Super Ball IX tickets will receive a free MP3 download of each set the band plays during the weekend from livephish.com, where they'll be available shortly after Phish finishes lip-syncing steps off stage.
SuperBallIX.com and Phish.com will be your main source for all things Ball. We've posted the first wave of information about the festival and will continue to update with Travel info, FAQs, Guidelines, Event Info, the hottest celebrity news, and much much more, so keep checking back.

Immediately following their 1999 U.S. summer tour, Phish traveled abroad for their first ever shows in Japan. Fuji Rock Festival took place on multiple stages and the festival had specially designed the "Field Of Heaven" stage for Phish to play three consecutive nights of complete, two-set headline shows.
In response to the recent earthquake and tsunami that the northeastern part of this country has endured, we're releasingJapan Relief at LivePhish.com and Phish Dry Goods to benefit Peace Winds America. 100% of the funds they collect for disaster relief will go to support operations through their sister organization, Peace Winds Japan. Relief operations began March 15th and are currently underway in Miuyagi Prefecture, where Peace Winds is on the ground providing food, clothing, medicines and temporary shelter to survivors of the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami.

Sunday, February 20, 2011 at 4:50PM Hidden Track's weekly B List gets inspired by Trey Anastasio's solo tour with the 10 Things you might not remember about his first solo tour. A number of Phish classics came out of that tour including Windora Bug, Heavy Things, First Tube, Sand, Bug, and Gotta Jibboo. Supported by audio and video clips, take a trip back to 1999 and revisit Trey's first solo tour.
In May of 1999, Trey Anastasio hit the road for his first solo tour. For this 12-show tour, Trey kicked things off with an acoustic set before welcoming drummer Russ Lawton and bassist Tony Markellis for an electric second set. The debut TAB tour contained plenty of standout moments, but there are a few highlights that generally get forgotten about in Trio Tour discussions.
This week’s B List continues “Trey Week” by detailing 10 Things You Might Not Remember About Anastasio’s First Solo Tour. As the Phish front man sets off to embark on a tour tomorrow with the same number of shows and same format as the 1999 TAB tour, let’s take a look back at that initial run…

On Record Store Day, Phish will release TWO SOUNDCHECKS, a Limited Edition 7-inch vinyl record that will be available exclusively at participating independently owned record stores across the country. TWO SOUNDCHECKS marks the band's first ever live vinyl release and their first release in conjunction with Record Store Day.
This 7-inch is limited to 2,000 hand-numbered copies, and once they are gone they are gone. The A-Side is an instrumental jam culled from the soundcheck of Phish's third show of a sold out three-night stand at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley, CA. The B-Side is an especially exotic soundcheck from Hartford, CT in 2009 (with just Trey on bass, and Fish on drums). This Limited Edition 7-inch was created exclusively for Record Store Day.
TWO SOUNDCHECKS will be available in stores only beginning April 16th, 2011. For a complete list of participating record stores, please click here.
