This past Tuesday, Toronto's newest jam-hub, the Mod Club hosted a smiley, wily and mostly male audience for rock'n'roll juggernaut moe.'s first Canadian date in over two years. The spring-like weather inspired several long-dormant hibernators and plenty of out of town traffic-makers to create the perfect opportunity to catch up and enjoy the band in a cosy club atmosphere with amazing sightlines, crispy sound, and savvy bar-tenders.

Currently, moe. is celebrating the release of their newest offering 'What happened to the La Las?', a concise and fresh album and have been touring hard in it's support across the States and soon throughout Europe, spreading their unique blend of soulful progressive guitar-driven jam rock. The new album has earned some tasty reviews and is definitely fueling the band with renewed energy and approach in it's improvisations and especially with creative and varied set-lists.

Last New Deal In The Country

 The New Deal

Coming off one of their biggest years to date, Canadian Live-Electro icons THE NEW DEAL have decided to call it day. With 10 records released and well over 1000 shows performed since the bands inception in 1998, tND has made an indelible mark as pioneers in the art of performing electronic music completely live and in real time.

So then, why stop now? tND’s drummer, Darren Shearer explains “Looking at the current musical climate, we realized that weren't going to continue to be able put out new records every year and keep up the 80+ show touring schedule that is required of bands in our genre. It didn't feel fair to our fans, and wasn't the way we wanted our band to evolve. tND has always been about being creative in the moment, but we had gotten to the point where we needed either give it our all or move on. It feels right to end off here.”

Wood Brothers in Toronto

The Wood Brothers at the Mod Club in Toronto

Review and Photos by Jake Senger

Talk about the show here...

The Wood Brothers, who hail from Atlanta, played a great energetic set of music Wednesday night at the Mod Club in Toronto. The band is a family affair with brothers Oliver Wood on guitar and vocals and Chris Wood on Bass.  On this current tour, they also have a drummer playing with them, Coco.

It was a fairly small crowd Wednesday night but the Wood Brothers filled out the room with their great folk blues songs.  Oliver Wood, guitarist and singer, showcased his excellent guitar skills including some great slide playing all night long.  His raspy voice added a lot to the music and really made each song sound very sincere.  Chris Wood, bass player from the popular jazz band Medeski, Martin and Wood, hit all the right notes and showcased his technical ability on the bass.

When Matt Costa sat down to write what would become Unfamiliar Faces, the follow-up to his 2005 debut full-length Songs We Sing, the singer/songwriter took his most treasured belongings and put them on a shelf — then stared at them and just let the memories flow. “That way I could see everything that I loved,” he explains (the collection included his favorite books, a giant wooden pipe, and a box of old 45-speed records from the late 1950s). “I let my imagination wander. Regular life isn’t as exciting as an imaginary life.”
