Support Local Ottawa Vinyl Dealers - Birdman Sound

Who doesn't love the experience of walking into a vinyl shop and flipping through new releases, used records or just randomly pick up something based on the owner's personal tastes?   Ottawa has a few of these places still in business, and as far as I know, they are run by people who know, appreciate and love music and vinyl together.

Things you can do with vinyl - Sleeve Facing!

In the 1980's, while living in Kingston, I would go from one music shop, to the next to look at what was out.  But the place that really took most of my hard earned Woolco money was Brian's Record Option.  I could find used records for music that I had just discovered while in high school.  Getting deep into the Beatles was really fun at Brian's.  He had original 1960's presses of Beatles' records from North American releases to the British variant. Bootlegs of Shea Stadium (yeah on vinyl!) and original box sets of George Harrison's All Things Must Pass which

Review - Peter Elkas - Repeat Offender

Written by: Sharon Williamson

Repeat Offender album artI hopped on the Peter Elkas band wagon long after his time with the Local Rabbits.  My adoration began with his solo work “Party of One” in 2004 and “Wall of Fire” in 2007.  Since their release, not a month (sometimes not even a week) goes by that Peter’s tasteful, catchy and smooth songs aren’t adding to the soundtrack of my life.  So I may not necessarily be the most unbiased person to review his latest release “Repeat Offender” (an unfortunate choice of titles for those that recall Richard Marx’s album of the same name).  Available on vinyl with a CD version included, let me just get it out of the way, that Peter is a beautiful man, and I love that his picture adorns the cover so that I may dance with it and pretend that all those puppy dogs belong to him and I and we take them for long walks..... I digress.

Phish "Two Soundchecks" Vinyl Limited 7"

On Record Store Day, Phish will release TWO SOUNDCHECKS, a Limited Edition 7-inch vinyl record that will be available exclusively at participating independently owned record stores across the country. TWO SOUNDCHECKS marks the band's first ever live vinyl release and their first release in conjunction with Record Store Day.

This 7-inch is limited to 2,000 hand-numbered copies, and once they are gone they are gone. The A-Side is an instrumental jam culled from the soundcheck of Phish's third show of a sold out three-night stand at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley, CA. The B-Side is an especially exotic soundcheck from Hartford, CT in 2009 (with just Trey on bass, and Fish on drums). This Limited Edition 7-inch was created exclusively for Record Store Day.

TWO SOUNDCHECKS will be available in stores only beginning April 16th, 2011. For a complete list of participating record stores, please click here.
